Dragon Boat Romance

Curious about romantic things to do this weekend in Portland? Check back every Thursday to read about a romantic event happening this weekend in the City of Roses. If you know of an event you feel should be featured on PDX Romantic, send an email to events@pdxromantic.com with the details of the event.
I love good competition. While growing up, I was active in competitive sports. More than winning, I enjoyed the competition itself. Pushing myself to the extreme in pursuit of a particular goal kept my juices flowing faster than milk out of a carton.
With this week’s Romantic Thing To Do, you’ll get a chance to not only watch good competition, but compete in it as well.
The Watching Part:
- Event: Rose Festival: Dragon Boat Races
- Dates: Saturday, June 12 & Sunday, June 13, 2010
- Time: 8:00am – 4:00pm
- Location: Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park (south end)
- Cost: Free
- More Info: Rose Festival: Dragon Boat Races
The Doing Part:
Take a picnic
Take a blanket, a good book, some sunscreen, your partner and find a good spot on the lawn next to the water. The best thing about the boat races is that there’s an opportunity to see a lot of the action from several different view points. Being comfortable is not only possible, but practically guaranteed (as long as you have a blanket).
Friendly Wager
Decide on 9 races in which you and your partner pick different teams. The winner in this best of 9 series gets a massage from the other person. Or a romantic dinner for two at a location chosen by the winner. Or household chores for a week. Or it could be some other sort of prize (use your imagination).
The Fun Keeps On Going
In addition, the waterfront village is still going on so you can hop on over and get a ride on the human sling. By the way, I’ve figured out how to get my partner to ride the human sling. When I win the dragon boat pick ‘em competition (and I will), I’ll ask for her riding the human sling instead of a massage. Ahhh yes, the spoils of war.
Stay romantic.
